Forty and the "City"
This morning, going for my morning walk with my dog Forty, I come out from my favorite coffee shop, CITO Espresso, and am heading home, when the "Dog Police" stop Forty and I.
Very nicely, they question on my where-abouts and where I live. Forty was at the time off his leash, and to add to this, I had change his collar (to coordinate with my dog apparel), and had not transferred his city dog license.
After verifying that the license was issued but was expired, they generously issued me a verbal warning. This encounter could have added up to $250.00 plus the renewal fees. OUCH! Expensive Coffee run! I woshed the city officers both a good day, and went home with Forty leashed and diligently by my side!
I got home and logged onto the City of Vancouver website and renewed Forty's Licence. I am now a responsible dog owner, in compliance with the City by-laws.
WHat really surprized me was the information the City officer volunteered:
DID YOU KNOW THAT:
If you are heading inside a coffee shop, with your dog leashed to a near-by pole or chair, alone, anxiously and peacefully waiting for your return: YOU ARE IN NON-COMPLIANCE OF THE CITY OF VANCOUVER BY-LAWS!
I thought I'd share this new information
